End of the Year Giving
As the end of the year approaches, it is a good time to reflect upon what our philanthropy has accomplished and how our efforts can help fulfill the needs of others. Many people take this opportunity to make a meaningful gift to Childspring International, and they are awarded tax benefits as a result.
How to Give
Typically at year-end, many people make gifts to their favorite charitable organizations in the form of donations. All gifts must be completed by Dec. 31 to qualify for an income tax deduction within this year. Financial contributions sent through the mail are deductible if they are postmarked by midnight on Dec. 31.
There are other methods of giving such as the gift of securities or real estate. These assets must have been held for more than one year to deduct the fair market value.
- Gifts of securities are deductible on the date they are transferred to the charitable organization's books-not the date you ask your broker to make the transfer.
- In most states, real estate gifts are considered completed on the date a properly executed deed is delivered to the organization.
